History, Vision, Mission & Goals

Dr. Renee Terrasi is the director and founder of Peace by Piece (PXP).  Dr. Terrasi’s vision and mission for PXP emanates from her own lifelong struggle with a neurological disability, as well as foster parent to a child with autism.

Vision

Having a disability does not automatically hinder an individual’s life potential; it only alters the “traditional” track. It changes how some tasks must be taught and accomplished. This is accomplished by understanding that we all have unique abilities, distinctive perceptions, quirks and learning styles. These are the “ingredients” that create us as “individuals”.

Children should be celebrated for who they are. They should not be made to feel that they must change to “normalcy”.   Professionals and caretakers who make it a point, to explore and enjoy their world demonstrate an unspoken reverence.  Relationships that are give and take ultimately develop a mutual respect!   It is after all human nature……. that when we are unconditionally loved, respected and validified for who we are; we are then eager to learn.

Mission

The mission of Peace by Piece is to provide researched based behavior analytic and educational services to children with autism and other developmental disabilities; In an environment that is surrounded with unconditional love, patience, support and respect; The space and opportunity to bloom, the freedom to be themselves and the ability to grow into happy, loved, confident and contributing members of our society.

Our Guiding Principles

1.   Scientifically proven interventions based on the principles of applied behavior analysis are the most effective teaching practices.

2.   Individualization to all pedagogical tactics is priority.

3.   Treatment decisions are based on learner’s response to intervention (RTI) with data graphically displayed and utilized for informed treatment decisions.

4.   Functional communication is the foundation that supports the development of all skills and all areas and therefore serves as priority in our treatment
